Deby Childress

Artistic Practice

Working primarily in ceramic sculpture, murals, and mixed media assemblage, Deby's work explores the intersection of memory, texture, and found objects. Each piece is carefully composed to tell a story through layered materials and thoughtful craftsmanship.

Her artistic philosophy centers on the belief that art should be accessible, meaningful, and rooted in authentic expression. The tagline "Hand Made and Heart Felt" captures her commitment to creating works that are both tactilely rich and emotionally resonant.

Teaching & Community Work

Deby has been an Art Teacher at Round Rock ISD since 2006, where she serves as a supervising teacher for UT Austin interns and presents regularly at Texas Art Education Association conferences. Previously, she owned the Bee Cave Art School (2002-2006) and held positions at Austin ISD, Lake Travis ISD, and Laguna Gloria Art Museum.

Her career spans multiple roles, from community program coordinator to museum educator, demonstrating her deep commitment to arts education and community engagement.

Notable Projects

Deby has directed substantial community collaborations that bring art to public spaces and serve important causes:

• Peace Pole - Ceramic installation at Bee Cave Sculpture Park
• Empty Bowl Project - Fundraising initiative for local food banks
• Large-Scale Murals - Including a 30' × 12' mural at Darden Hill Boy's Ranch and a block-length painted mural at Habitat for Humanity
• School Murals - Multiple installations up to 15' × 5' in educational settings
